AMAZON JUNGLE REGION

The Amazon jungle is the largest tropical forest of the world, being considered the lung of the world, in an area of more than 7.000.000 of km² along 9 different countries. Ecological and geological features such as the rock formations of Chiribiquete among other unique spots make the Colombian amazon jungle very special. A significant part of Colombia’s rich cultural diversity and impressive natural wealth is rooted in the Amazon. The area is named for the magnificent river that winds through its thick, green jungle, giving life to the area’s unparalleled ecosystem.

The Amazon’s unique ecosystem has endowed the region with a wealth of natural resources perfect for ecotourism and community-based tourism. You can climb enormous trees, hike through the jungle, ride zip lines, admire ancient rock paintings, sail and swim in the Amazon basin rivers, watch local flora and fauna, or take a trip down the rivers to remote places in the heart of the jungle. It provides a unique, authentic opportunity to experience a virgin territory filled with native communities living off the land and practicing beliefs and rituals still relatively unknown to the western world.

This region is characterized for large areas with well-preserved ecosystems, where you can find accommodation of different standards, from accommodations in very basic conditions at the indigenous territories, passing by basic cabins, to very comfortable eco-lodges depending on the destination to visit. The bigger cities have more hotel options and the region is well connected with several airports in different zones all over the urban areas of the Amazon.
