Tour Details

The Amazon department (province/state) is located in the extreme south of Colombia. Leticia, its capital is an special important nature travel destination, rich in biodiversity and historically important for ancestral indigenous cultures.

Its mix between jungle and indigenous ancestral traditions makes an environment with diverse natural attractives crossed by the magnificent Amazon river in a region that was sacred for different native communities and has a high level of conservation with the chance to watch abundant endemic fauna.

Price Includes

  • Accommodation 1 night in hotel in “Huitoto`s Maloka (indigenous house)” on the KM 11 road to Tarapacá, 1 night in private, double, triple or multiple rooms depending on the availability, and 1 night in shared rooms in rural hotel in Sacambú (Perú).*.

Recommendations

  • The destinations to be explored have special climatological conditions that require certain previous preparation in order to have a pleasurable trip. In the same order we promote conservation in every destination, each one count with environmental and ecosystem characteristics, so it is necessary:
  • Follow and abide all the instructions of the guides during each one of the trails and tours to be taken.
  • Be prepared with appropriated clothing for the 4 days of the trip with a warm and humid weather common in the amazon region.
  • It is advisable to take binoculars in order to watch fauna.
  • It is important to take cautions against mosquitos & have the vaccination against yellow fever at least 10 days before the trip (This vaccination should be renewed every 10 years).

What to take?

  • Long-sleeved shirts in order to avoid sunburns during the trails.
  • Appropriated footwear for the hikes (trekking boots are advisable and at least one pair of sneakers or several pairs for change (they might get wet during the treks).
  • Swimming suit, towels and shoes for the water, everyday there will be chance to take baths in the rivers and lakes.
  • Take cautions for electronic devices, they might be susceptible of damages due to humidity and rain in the area).
  • Sunscreen & repellent.
  • Hands-free backpack & Rigid non-disposable recipient in order to refill water (canteen)
  • Take waterproof clothing and/or poncho for the rain.
  • Cap, hat and/or protection from the sun and for the head.
  • Take your own personal flashlight for the nights.
  • Personal documents and medical insurance.

Not included

  • Flight tickets, which are coordinated by the agency and the price is between 500mil and 900mil COP depending on the date and the anticipation they are reserved*. *We ask you to book in advance in order to guarantee spots with the airline.
  • Touristic tax at the Leticia airport: $35.000 pesos
  • Snacks, handicrafts and Souvenirs.

Extras or optionals for the trip

Options of sleeping on a tree house on the first night and also spend the second night in a more comfortable hotel on the night 2 for an additional price of 120.000 COP per person per night.

Itinerary

Day 1

(10:30) – Estimated arrival and welcome by our local team at Leticia airport (the flight hour might change depending on the airline schedule for that day), after that you will be transferred in private vehicles to Leticia and then to the KM11, where you will have lunch. You will be received by a local indigenous community and will spend the afternoon in their territory doing a trek towards “Takana” river where you will have the chance to fish with the locals. At night you will have dinner at the “Maloka” (indigenous house) and share moments with the elders of the community having a talk about their culture and cosmovision. The included accommodation will be in hammocks in the “Maloka” or optionally in a tree house with an extra-cost.

Day 2

 (07:00) – Breakfast at the “Maloka” and departure towards Leticia and transportation on boats on the Amazon river passing by the monkey island, then some indigenous communities of Macedonia before arriving to Puerto Nariño where you will have lunch. In the afternoon you will visit the Tarapoto lakes expecting to see the pink dolphins and the Lotus flower. Then you will be taken to you hotel and then will have free time to enjoy the town, which was the first certified sustainable touristic destination of Colombia, and then you will have dinner at the hotel.

Day 3

(07:00) – Breakfast & check-out from the hotel, then you will start a trek on high forest of approximately 3 hours heading to San Martin de Amacayacu where you will see a more preserved ecosystem and can have a deeper experience in the jungle. Once we make it to our destination we will be received by locals and will have traditional lunch with them. In the afternoon we will have a talk with the female elders of the indigenous community and will have a handicraft & painting workshop with them before heading to a hike and piranha fishing activity. The night will be spent in basic local accommodations with the community having dinner with them. (there is an option os doing a jungle night sleeping in jungle camping in the forest).

Day 4

(06:00) – Breakfast and then canoeing on the Amacayacu river where we will expect to see some wildlife, some forest species and with some luck pink dolphins (the activity depends on the water leves of the rivers). Then you will have lunch and we will start our way back towards Sacambú (Perú) where you will have lunch and afterwards you will visit the Gamboa village in order to see fauna in rehabilitation process and fossils museum. In the late afternoon you will do an activity of Piranha fishing and then will have accommodation in local hotel of the area. At night you will have dinner and optional night hike to see alligators.

Day 5

(05:00) – Optional early wake up in order to see birds and fauna in the area. By 7:00 AM the Breakfast will be ready at the hotel and then you will take a boat transportation on the Yavarí river and then the Amazon river in order to head back to Leticia, on the way you will visit “Islandia (Perú)” and “Benjamin Constant (Brazil)”; then you will have lunch and we will start our way back towards Leticia where we will have accommodation in the Onaira hostel (more luxury accommodations available for an extra price and the dinner won’t be included on this day)

Day 6

(07:00) – Breakfast and then we will visit the town of “Tabatinga” (Brazil) where we will do a city tour and will visit the main spots of that place. Once we finished that and depending on the flight time you will be taken to Leticia hotel to pick up your stuff and then to the airport for your flight. (in case the flight is in the afternoon, the lunch is not included).
