ARARACUARA EXPEDITION (8D8N)

(06:00) – Arrival to S.J. del Guaviare and breakfast. Once there we will wait for the flight to Araracuara which lasts 1:10 hrs. The flight itself is such an experience as it is in a cargo/passenger plane that can land in the unpaved airtracks of the Amazon jungle. Once in the Airtrack we will have lunch and walk to the mythical Araracuara canyon which has an imposing view, where macaws can be spotted. Then we will walk an hour till the Caquetá river, which we will navigate to get to the indigenous community of Aménane where you will sleep in hammocks inside a “Maloka” (indigenous meeting house).

(08:00) – Breakfast and then boat ride to navigate the Raudal de Angosturas, which is a magnificent 8 kms strait that offers spectaculars river streams due to its geology and where the huge Caquetá river narrows in immense rock walls formations with waterfalls on both sides. Here also flocks of macaws will fly over the whole navigation. This activity will take 4 hours and you will witness the Angosturas waterfall before having lunch in a creek where you can safely swim. After that we will get back to the community, having dinner and a space to share with the indigenous and if you want, to practice their traditions.

(07:00) – Breakfast at the community and hike by the border of Angosturas canyon in a trek of 12 kilometers where you will take your own lunch in your backpack which is a traditional dish of smoked fish wrapped in leaves being is one of the most traditional indigenous lunch. You will have lunch at one of the most beautiful spots of the trek and then will head back towards the community where you will sleep in the same maloca, having dinner, also a time to share with the indigenous and if you want to practice their traditions.

(07:30) – Traditional indigenous breakfast at the Maloka and navigation towards the Chorro de Monochoa, which is a river stream that passes over other rock shapes forming a spectacular wide waterfall-like place, which is an imposing spot and you will navigate 2 hours before having a traditional lunch with the smoked fish and preparation with local ingredients. In the afternoon you will visit a “chagra”, which is an indigenous crop with local amazon products such as yuca, pineapple, coca, tobacco and traditional plants. Later on, you will return to the Maloka and will have dinner and rest.

(08:00) – Traditional breakfast at the indigenous community and then 3 hours navigation towards Salto del Paujil, which is a wide waterfall in the jungle where you can take a nice shower on its powerful waters. After that, we will head back to Aménane community and will have lunch there, in the afternoon there will be time for interaction with the kids and people of the community and you can give them gifts such as books, pencils, medicines, soccer balls among other useful gifts to the community. At night you will have dinner, also a time to share with the indigenous and if you want to practice their traditions.

(08:00) – Traditional breakfast at the indigenous community and then and 8-hours hike towards the Lost city of the Amazon, which is a place with special and particular rock formations. You will have lunch at the Lost city and will have the trek back towards the community where you will sleep in the same maloca having dinner there, also a time to share with the indigenous and if you want to practice their traditions.

(07:00) – Traditional breakfast at the indigenous community and farewell from the community, after that you will have a navigation back to the initial port, where then you will hike up with your own backpack to the Devil’s jump lookout where you can spot again flocks of macaws. Later on, you will hike down one hour till Araracuara town where you will have lunch. Then you will get to a local house in basic conditions. In the afternoon you can visit the Araracuara canyon for one last time and then hiking back to the town in order to have dinner and finally you will sleep in hammocks inside the house.

(07:00) – Breakfast and 1 hour hike up towards the airport where we will wait for the flight back to San José del Guaviare of 1:10 hours. On the plane you can see the immense amazon jungle from above for a last time in this expedition and then you will arrive at the Guaviare airport, where we will have lunch and then will take the bus back towards Bogotá arriving at the capital at 11:00 PM approximately.
