The Colombian Pacific coast is a great ecotourism destination, being one of the most humid regions of the world where the wild, dense jungle meets the ocean. The region between Bahía Solano and Nuquí has been declared a biodiversity hotspot due to its importance on the conservation and abundance of wildlife all year long. The great advantage of Bahía Solano over Nuqui is to be really close to Utria National Park and has easier flight connections.
This tour is designed for people that can sacrifice a little of comfort in order to have a closer contact with nature, here you will stay in cabins in front of the ocean and will participate in turtle conservation projects. You can also explore the continental wildlife, such as frogs, birds and monkeys. From April to May you can witness the sardines’ migration and the whale sharks or between July to October attend the humpback whale migration which is the most famous event in the area.
(06:30 to 10:30) – Meeting at Enrique Olaya Herrera airport of Medellín. (the meeting time depends on the flight itinerary), then you will take a 1-hour flight to get to Bahía Solano, where the local team will receive you and take you in private vehicles to “El Valle”, where you will check-in at the hotel in front of the beach and will have lunch. After that, you will have a free afternoon in the beach enjoying the sunset on the beach. Later on, you will have a turtle liberation activity (from July to February) before returning to the hotel in order to have dinner and rest.
(07:00) – Breakfast and departure to have wildlife encounters depending on the season of the year. It can be whale-watching activity, turtle liberations, turtle nesting sights, scuba diving with whale-sharks and sardines, continental expeditions to observe birds, reptiles and monkey species or a mix between them. Later on, you will get back to the hotel, will have lunch, and will have free time to enjoy the beach and fresh waters of creeks there and the sunset, before returning to the hotel to have dinner and rest.
(07:00) – Breakfast and departure from El Valle dock in speed boats towards Utría National Park, where you can see one of the most well-preserved ecosystems of the area. Once there, you will have have to pay the National park entrance fee and will have a guided walk through the Mangroves trail. On the way back, you will visit Playa Blanca (White Beach) inside the National Park, before heading back to El Valle, where you will have lunch and free-time to enjoy the beaches there and the sunset in that area. You will end the day having dinner and rest in the hotel.
