Gorgona is a special island located less than 60 kms from the closest Colombian town which is Guapi in the Cauca department (state). This island used to be one of the most feared prisons in the country, but now it is entirely a National Park protected since 1984 due to its biological and ecological value in land with different plants, monkey, bird and reptile species, but specially for its biodiversity under the sea.
In Gorgona there are stunning white-sand paradisiacal empty beaches perfect for relaxing and tanning. Underwater you can find well-preserved coral reefs and even sunken ships, making of this, a great destination for scuba-diving being famous for its big turtles, different shark species, several species of fishes and other marine fauna. This place is also known for being one of the best spots for whale-watching in Colombia, activity that only can be made from July to October.
(10:00 to 14:00) – Welcoming at the airport of Guapi town (we can also coordinate flights from Cali). Then you will be taken by the local team to the town’s dock in order to take a fast boat towards Gorgona island. The boat ride takes 1 hour approximately and once there you will check-in at the island hotel, will have lunch and will receive a talk with National parks systems. Afterwards you will start a guided tour through the old jail, once we finish it, you will get back to the hotel in order to have dinner and rest in your room at the comfortable hotel of the island.
(07:00) – Breakfast at the hotel and after that you will be taken in boats in order to do the whale-watching (only from July to October) or other activities depending on the season in open sea in the surrounding area of the island such as scuba-diving, once it is over the boat will head to Palmeras beach where you can relax for some moments. After that you will be taken to the hotel where you will have lunch. Later on, you will hike the trail to The Aquarium area (Perfect place for snorkeling) or will have time to do scuba-diving. Once you get back to the hotel you will have dinner and rest at the hotel.
(07:00) – Breakfast and free-time for scuba-diving, snorkeling or hike through the authorized trails of the island or extra activities to hire at the place, after that, you will have lunch and then will do the check-out from the island’s hotel and then departure in speedboats towards the town of Guapi (1 hour boat ride) where you will be transferred to the hotel and will have dinner at night trying the special local traditional cuisine.
(07:00) – Breakfast at the hotel and then you will be taken by boat to a fluvial tour upstream Guapi river by the pristine waters of this water body and will enjoy several waterfalls that flow into the river. On this trip we will visit several indigenous and afro communities located along the river and will stop in one of them having a special lunch in one of those communities, having also some time to share with them and get to know about their traditions and daily life. In the late afternoon we will head back to Guapi town and you will be received with a special dinner and traditional drinks tasting.
(07:00) – Breakfast in the hotel and cultural tour in the town of Guapi where we will visit the gold filigree workshops and artisans in the region and will end the tour with a visit to the Eperaara Saiapidaara indigenous community getting to know their handicraft and sustainable projects. After this morning tour we will get back to Guapi to have lunch before doing the check out from the hotel and will be taken to the airport in order to take your flight back to Cali.
