The Cerros de Mavicure are the main attraction of the department (state) of Guainía, being a set of 3 monoliths (712, 480 and 170 meters respectively) located 2 hours south by boat of the town of Inírida. At the area you can also see the Inírida fluvial star, where four big rivers join (Guaviare, Inírida, Atabapo and Orinoco).
This 4-days experience is the most popular tour, as here there are several open group dates all year long that you can join in order to visit the famous Mavicure hills ascending to two of them, getting also to Inirida Fluvial Star, traveling mainly by boats on several rivers of different characteristic and colors, visiting the Morú natural reserve and some productive projects and sustainable practices that locals are running in order to get an income while preserving the ecosystems.
(10:30) – Welcoming by the local team at Inírida airport (The hour depends on the flight itinerary), after that, you be taken to the town dock. Subsequently you will have a 2-hours boat ride by the Inírida river heading to the Mavicure hills. Once there, you will have lodging in beds in basic conditions at the Remanso indigenous community. Later on, you will start a trek towards Diablo hill, which is a monolith behind the Mavicure hills, having a great panoramic view of the place. At the end you will head back to the community where you will have dinner and will sleep in basic beds.
(07:00) – Breakfast and then you will cross the Inírida river in order start a trek to the top of Mavicure hill, where you will have the most famous view of the destination with the two highest hills and the Inírida river in front of you. After that you will swim in the red waters of the San Joaquin creek before getting back to the community, where you will have lunch and then will take a 1-hour boat ride towards La Ceiba indigenous community which also has basic accommodation conditions. After that, we will attempt to see river dolphins, having at night a canoe activity to see nocturnal fauna in one of the creeks.
(08:00) – Breakfast before doing “the honey route” where you will get to know sustainable projects that are run by the indigenous communities supported by NGO’s. After that, you will have a 1.5-hours boat towards the Inírida fluvial star, where 4 different big rivers join forming the big Orinoco river, which is the second most powerful river of America. Later on, you will get to Morú Natural Reserve having lunch there. Afterwards, you can swim in the red waters of Atabapo river, visiting fascinating rock formations before getting back to the reserve where you will have dinner and basic lodging.
(07:30) – Breakfast at the reserve and then walk to the jungle protected in the reserve. Then you will do a canopy activity rappelling up to trees of 15 meters of height and then crossing bridges and platforms in which you will admire the jungle from above. After that you have to check-out from the reserve and will be taken by boat towards the town of Inírida, where you will have lunch and will be taken to the airport in order to wait for your flight out Guainía.
