La Guajira is a department (state) located in the northernmost peninsula of Colombia, having the largest desert area nationwide, with very unusual landscapes in the country. Additionally, this is the region with the largest indigenous population of Colombia, especially thanks to the Wayúu Ethnicity.
This 2-days experience is designed for those who want a quick trip to the largest desert area of Colombia that offers landscapes seen nowhere else in the whole country. Here you will get to know the famous Cabo de la Vela, the Mayapo beaches and the Manaure salt flats and mines.
(07:30) – Pick up in Riohacha in 4×4 vehicles, then we will head up north to enter to the desert, stopping in a “Ranchería” (Indigenous small village) Wayúu, where you will optionally have special cultural activities and lunch with them. After that we will take you to Cabo de la Vela and its cliffs, visiting the Rainbow beach, Pilón de Azúcar and Ojo de Agua, before check into the eco-hotel chosen, where you will have dinner and accommodation in “Chinchorros” (special local traditional hammock) or in beds, which have to be booked it in advance for 15 USD extra.
(07:00) – Breakfast and departure in our 4×4 vehicles towards Manaure, where you will visit the salt-flats there that offer different colours in its waters and you will see the process of collecting salt, which is an important economic activity in the region. Afterwards you will be taken to the famous and beautiful beaches of Mayapo, where you will have lunch and will have free time to enjoy the beach. At the end, you will be taken to Riohacha where you will be left at any spot within the city.
