Guaviare department (state) is located in the northern side of the Colombian Amazon jungle. This area is full of biodiversity as this is the transition between the Orinoquia and the Amazon regions of the country. Its mix of jungle and special rock formations make the proper conditions for unique wildlife and special secrets at the area.
In this 3-days expedition you will visit the highlights of the surrounding area of San José del Guaviare such as the impressive millennial rock paintings at Cerro Azul, which is the spot with the best well-preserved rockart at the area. You will also visit the special rock formations there such as Puerta de Orión, Pozos Naturales and even rivers of different colors such as Caño Sabana (Also called the Caño Cristales twin) during the season that goes from June to November.
(07:30 – 09:30) – Welcoming by the local team at San José del Guaviare airport (The hour depends on the flight itinerary), after that check-in at the hotel, where you will have breakfast. After that we will take you in 4×4 cars towards Pozos Naturales, which is a place where we will start a hike through a yellow rocky river ending in a natural Jacuzzi. Then you will have lunch and will head on the car to an area called Túneles Naturales, where we will do a 2.5 kms hike in order to get to whimsical rocky tunnel formations. Later on, we will head back to the town in order to have dinner and rest at the hotel.
(07:30) Breakfast and after that transportation in 4×4 for 90 minutes towards Cerro Azul, where after been received by the local community you will start to the hike of 3 kms through a jungle trail and one cave till we get to one of the most conserved and best rock art murals of Colombia. These paintings are thought to be up to 12.000 years old and we will end the trail in an elevated lookout of the amazon jungle. After ending the activity, you will have lunch and then will head back to San José del Guaviare where you will have a special traditional dinner and will have rest at the hotel.
(07:30) Breakfast and then transportation in 4×4 vehicles for 20 minutes towards a spot where you will start a 9 kms circuit in a trail with low forest visiting the great Puerta de Orión, which is a rock formation with a particular and very unique shape that was discovered few years ago. Only from June to November you have the chance to end the trek visiting Caño Rosado river, which has green and red colors on its waters, being known as the Caño Cristales twin. You will end the day heading back to the town and having lunch there, then we can take you to the airport or bus station where our services will end.
