Tour Details

The Amazon department (state) is located in the extreme south of Colombia in the Amazon Region, at the border with Peru and Brazil, Leticia, its capital, is the town that will receive you when traveling to this destination. All the surrounding area of Leticia is naturally and culturally important due to the great biodiversity and the several indigenous ancestral cultures living there since centuries ago.

This 5-days trip is designed for those who want to go beyond the regular tourist do. Here you will explore the Colombian jungle near Leticia at Omagua reserve where you will sleep in tree houses and the Peruvian Jungle at Marasha reserve, you will also visit the Maikuchiga foundation, Puerto Nariño and small indigenous villages very little traveled near the Amacayacu National Park doing a complete trip by Ticunas’ and Huitotos’ indigenous territories.

Itinerary

Day 1

(09:30 – 13:30) – Welcoming by the local team at Leticia airport (the hour depends on the arrival time), after that you will be taken to a rural area, where you will check-in at beautiful tree houses at Omagua reserve and will have lunch. Afterwards, you will visit a Huitoto indigenous community, doing a jungle trek and activities near the Takana river. At night you will have dinner at the “Maloka” (indigenous meeting house) and will share some moments with the elders of the community having a talk about their culture and cosmovision. After that you will get back to the ecolodge.

Day 2

(07:00) – Breakfast & check-out, then transportation in speed boats on the Amazon river from the Leticia dock, stopping on the way at the village of Macedonia, visiting the Maikuchiga foundation (which rescues threaten amazon wildlife) before arriving to Puerto Nariño, where you will have lunch and will check-in at the hotel. In the afternoon you will visit the Tarapoto lakes, expecting to see the pink dolphins, then you will have free time to explore this car-free town, which was the first certified sustainable touristic destination of Colombia. At night you will have dinner at the hotel.

Day 3

(07:00) – Breakfast & check-out from the hotel, then you will start a trek on high forest of approximately 3-hours heading to San Martin de Amacayacu, a tiny indigenous village where you will see a more preserved ecosystem and can have a deeper experience in the jungle. Once we make it to our destination you will be received by locals and will have a traditional lunch with them. In the afternoon we will head back to Puerto Nariño, and then will take a boat towards Marasha reserve (on the peruvian side of the Amazon where you will do a night activity looking for caimans and nocturnal fauna.

Day 4

(08:00) – Breakfast and then jungle trek at the Marasha reserve looking for the fauna of the peruvian side of the Amazon river. The jungle on the peruvian side is different to the one on the Colombian side as the first one is frequently flooded and the jungle in general has lower altitude. Then we will get back to the hotel, will have lunch and then will take a boat towards Leticia where with some luck you can see pink dolphins. Once at Leticia, you will have accommodation in a comfortable hotel of the city with all the facilities to have a good rest depending on the option chosen.

Day 5

(07:30) – Breakfast and then depending on the flight itinerary you will check-out and will be taken to the airport for your flight. In case the flight is in the afternoon the lunch is not included, but if you have enough time you can optionally hire a city-tour at the town of Tabatinga (Brazil) visiting its main spots of that town where you will start to hear Portuguese language, Brazilian music and a different culture, or you can hire a canopy and extreme activities day in platforms by ecological paths at a reserve near Leticia.
