The Amazon department (state) is located in the extreme south of Colombia in the Amazon Region, at the border with Peru and Brazil, Leticia, its capital, is the town that will receive you when traveling to this destination. All the surrounding area of Leticia is naturally and culturally important due to the great biodiversity and the several indigenous ancestral cultures living there since centuries ago.
This 4-days trip is designed for more adventure-oriented travelers that want to visit the highlights of this region such as the monkeys’ island, Macedonia and Puerto Nariño sharing with indigenous communities and sleeping on tree houses. Here you will also cross the triple border visiting Peruvian and Brazilian towns getting deeper into the jungle looking for special Amazon fauna and flora.
(09:30 – 13:30) – Welcoming by the local team at Leticia airport (the hour depends on the arrival time), after that you will be taken to a rural area, where you will check-in at beautiful tree houses at Omagua reserve and will have lunch. Afterwards, you will visit a Huitoto indigenous community, doing a jungle trek and activities near the Takana river. At night you will have dinner at the “Maloka” (indigenous meeting house) and will share some moments with the elders of the community having a talk about their culture and cosmovision. After that you will get back to the ecolodge.
(07:00) – Breakfast & check-out, from Leticia you will do an 87 kms navigation in speed boats in a shared tour on the Amazon river stopping on the way at the Monkeys’ island and Macedonia, which is a Ticuna indigenous community, before arriving to Puerto Nariño, where you will have lunch and a city-tour. Afterwards you will visit the Tarapoto lakes, expecting to see the pink dolphins, the Victoria Regia and the Lotus flower. At the end, we will navigate back to Leticia downstream the Amazon river, where you will spend the night in a comfortable hotel and will have dinner.
(08:00) – Breakfast and then you will navigate 42 Kms towards the village of Zacambú. On the way you will pass by the triple border (Colombia, Perú and Brazil) visiting first the town of Benjamin Constant in the Brazilian side, subsequently you will visit Islandia in the peruvian side, which is considered the “Venice of the Amazon” before arriving to the Zacambú lakes, where you will do jungle activities and will observe local fauna. You can spend the night at a typical basic house or doing a jungle camp in order to be much closer to nature and will have dinner.
(05:00) – Optional bird-watching in the jungle and breakfast. Then you will be taken back to Leticia in boats, where with some luck you can see the last river dolphins. Once at Leticia, you will be taken to the airport in order to wait for your flight. If you have time, you can optionally hire with us a city-tour to the town of Tabatinga (Brazil) visiting the main spots of that town while hearing Portuguese language, Brazilian music and experiencing a different culture in general or you can hire canopy and ecological trails activities at one of the jungle reserves near Leticia.
