Los Nevados National Park offers majestic views thanks to its imposing mountains and high volcanoes that are located in the Central Andean mountain range of Colombia. This a very large protected area of 583 km2 of extension where inactive volcanoes like Paramillo del Quindío offer great views without needing to camp or use ice-climbing gear.
During this 3-days expedition that begins at 2.400 m.a.s.l. (7.800 ft) you will pass by different canyons and ecosystems such as the cloud forest, “paramo” (moor) and “super-páramo” before getting to this former glacier located in the middle of the National park where you will have a great panoramic of the whole protected area staying in cabins of local farmers of the region.
(07:00) – Meeting in Salento main square (or pick up in your accommodation in Salento), after that a Jeep ride towards Cocora Valley. Once you received the final previous recommendations from our team and from the authorities we will start the trek by the Cárdenas river canyon till the top of it where you will have an outdoors lunch with a majestic view. Then we will continue the trek by the cloud forest to our final destination for that day, which is a traditional farm located at 3.400 m.a.s.l. (11.150 ft) where you will have dinner and rest.
(07:00) – Breakfast at the cabin and after that you will begin the trek towards Buenos Aires farm passing by different high ecosystems of Páramo (moor) and Super Páramo, where we will get to the astonishing wetlands of Quindío, having lunch on the way before attempting to get to the top of the Paramillo del Quindío at 4.750 m.a.s.l. (15.580 ft) that offers spectacular views of this inactive volcano and the whole national park. After the summit the group will head towards La Primavera farm located at 3.750 m.a.s.l. (12.300 ft) where you will have dinner and rest.
(07:30) – Breakfast in the cabin and then trek back towards the Cocora valley where you will pass again by Estrella de agua point, a place where the Quindío river is originated, having lunch there and during this day you will walk at your own pass in order to enjoy the trail and the last part of the expedition before arriving to Cocora valley and be taken back to Salento in a traditional jeep.
