San Vicente del Caguán is a municipality that used to be the epicenter of the Colombian conflict, but after the peace accord signed at 2016, there are multiple projects and efforts of national and international organizations that support former guerrilla combatants in their reintegration to civil life. Nowadays locals, Colombians and foreigners interested in the construction of peace in the country visit this region supporting the post-conflict efforts that benefit local communities.
In this tour you can learn about the historical reasons of the conflict seen from different perspectives. Also, you will get to know projects like Rafting for peace, which is an initiative where you will practice rafting in several pristine rivers of the region with magnificent ecosystems and landscapes guided by former guerrilla combatants.
(14:00) – Estimated arrival to the San Vicente del Caguán airport or arrival by road to the department and welcoming by the local team of the region, then transfer to the hotel in the town, lunch and in the afternoon the treasure activity which will put you in context and will tell you about the history of the region, also visiting local productive projects. At night you will have local drinks made with special amazon fruits such as Copoazú, Arazá, Camu-Camu among other and after that you will have dinner.
(7:30 AM) – Breakfast and transportation in 4×4 cars towards Miravalle village, having breakfast on the way, before getting to the first rafting point. After having the instructions for the activity, you will do rafting on Cajones del Río Pato, which is a canyon with some of the most gorgeous landscapes of the region, calm waters and where you freely talk to the former-combatants guides about their stories. After this, we will take you to Miravalle ETCR (Territorial Training and Reincorporation Spaces) where you will stay with the former-combatants at a very basic accommodation and will have dinner there.
(7:00 AM) – Breakfast and then rafting activity on the Miravalle river, which offers a higher-level rafting activity compared to the previous day, where adventure and fun is guaranteed, so you will need some basic skills to do this sport. After this, you will have lunch at the Miravalle village with the locals and in the afternoon, you will have an activity of historic memory and productive projects after the war, where the former combatants will explain you about the conflict, its roots and ways to overcome it. At night you will have dinner and will stay in the same accommodation.
(05:00 AM) – Optional hiking activity in order to look for local fauna and flora expecting to watch with some luck birds and monkey species in this place that is naturally well preserved.
(08:00 AM) – Breakfast and after that you will be taken back to San Vicente del Caguán in order to take your flight or continue your journey.
