This is one of the most important archeological destinations of Colombia due to its well-known pre-Columbian sites belonging to the ancient San Agustin culture. This area was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995, having must-visit places such as the San Agustin Archeological park, the Chaquira stone among other sites with statues and rock sculptures.
The town itself is also a great place to walk its streets with white and green houses and buildings. San Agustin is located in a strategical place in the Andean mountains, where the main river of the country, the Magdalena river, is born. Stunning landscapes with several waterfalls, great lookouts, coffee plantations and other natural beauties make this also a great nature travel destination.
