This area is the second largest arid zone of the country, being technically a tropical dry forest of more than 330 km2 located in the department (state) of Huila. The 2-days tour is the most popular one in which visitors will spend one night in a hotel inside the desert and will have a night of stargazing at this special area, which is perfect for that activity. You will also hike the three most famous trails at the desert (At the Orange, Grey and Ash-color areas), will explore Villavieja and will do a boat tour on its neighbor Magdalena river, which is the main river nationwide.
(06:00) – Meeting and breakfast in the town of Villavieja, before a city-tour visiting the paleontological and Totumo museums, then transportation to the desert where we will start a hike at the Cuzco sector (Orange Desert). After that you will be taken to the hotel, checking-in and having lunch there. Subsequently, you after some rest at the hotel, you will be taken late in the afternoon to the Los Xilópalos valley, where you will anjoy the sunset. At night you will have dinner and then we will head to the observatory to have the talk & stargazing with an expert astronomer.
(07:00) Breakfast and after that departure in our transportation to get to the spot called Los Hoyos, once there we will start the last hike on the ash color part of the desert, once it is over we will head back to the hotel, having some free time there. Later on, you will do the check-out and will be taken to Villavieja town where you will have lunch before doing a boat tour on the Magdalena river (which is the main Colombian river) looking for fauna and great landscapes and finally, we can coordinate a connection with Neiva or any other big city in order to facilitate connections with other destinations.
