The Cerros de Mavicure are the main attraction of the department (state) of Guainía, being a set of 3 monoliths (712, 480 and 170 meters respectively) located 2 hours south by boat of the town of Inírida. At the area you can also see the Inírida fluvial star, where four big rivers join (Guaviare, Inírida, Atabapo and Orinoco). At the Vichada department (state) you can get to the El Tuparro National Park which also offers majestic views specially during the dry season (December to March).
In this very special 7-days expeditions you will explore the best of both: Guainía and Vichada departments (states). You will travel mainly by boats on several rivers of different characteristic colors and majestic rapids, visiting the famous Mavicure hills, the Inírida Fluviar star and the Tuparro National Park. You will also visit several indigenous territories getting to know some local productive projects and all the spectacular landscapes and fauna of these pristine ecosystems.
(10:30) – Welcoming by the local team at Inírida airport (The hour depends on the flight itinerary), after that, you be taken to the town dock. Subsequently you will have a 2-hours boat ride by the Inírida river heading to the Mavicure hills. Once there, you will have lodging in beds in basic conditions at the Remanso indigenous community. Later on, you will start a trek towards Diablo hill, which is a monolith behind the Mavicure hills, having a great panoramic view of the place. At the end you will head back to the community where you will have dinner and will sleep in basic beds.
(07:00) – Breakfast and then you will cross the Inírida river in order start a trek to the top of Mavicure hill, where you will have the most famous view of the destination with the two highest hills and the Inírida river in front of you. After that you will swim in the red waters of the San Joaquin creek before getting back to the community, where you will have lunch and then will take a 1-hour boat ride towards La Ceiba indigenous community which also has basic accommodation conditions. After that, we will attempt to see river dolphins, having at night a canoe activity to see nocturnal fauna in one of the creeks.
(08:00) – Breakfast before doing “the honey route” where you will get to know sustainable projects that are run by the indigenous communities supported by NGO’s. After that, you will have a 1.5-hours boat towards the Inírida fluvial star, where 4 different big rivers join forming the big Orinoco river, which is the second most powerful river of America. Later on, you will get to Morú Natural Reserve having lunch there. Afterwards, you can swim in the red waters of Atabapo river, visiting fascinating rock formations before getting back to the reserve where you will have dinner and basic lodging.
(07:30) – Breakfast at the reserve and then walk to the jungle protected in the reserve. Then you will do a canopy activity rappelling up to trees of 15 meters of height and then crossing bridges and platforms in which you will admire the jungle from above. After that you will get back in order to have lunch and prepare for another 2.5- hours boat transportation on the Orinoco river heading to El Tuparro National Park setting a campsite at the point of Mantequero island and having dinner there. Here you will travel by very well-preserved ecosystems in an experience reserved just for few people.
(07:00) – Breakfast at the campsite and then navigation till the entrance of El Tuparro national park, where we will start the ascent of the Guahibo hill attempting to get to the top of it, at this point you will be inside the national park. Afterwards you will visit the indigenous graveyard at the area having lunch there, and then we will head to the jewel of this national park: the Raudal of Maipures, which is an imposing river rapid with special unique rock formations that will definitely astonish you. After that we will set the campsite at the shores of the Orinoco river and will have dinner there.
(07:00) – Breakfast at the campsite and then a boat transfer to the Garcitas village where you will have the chance to see river dolphins while crossing the Raudal of Atures, which is another imposing place with one of the largest river rapids of the world with its 13 kms of width. Then we will get to the point of Causarito where you will have lunch and afterwards will navigate towards Puerto Carreño, which is the capital of Vichada department (state) where you will do the check-in at the hotel, will have dinner and rest.
(07:00) – Breakfast at the hotel and then visit of Bandera hill where you can contemplate the Savannahs of Vichada, where Meta, Orinoco and Bita river can be admired. Afterwards we will head back to the town in order to have lunch and prepare the luggage before heading to the airport of Puerto Carreño, where the flight with SATENA airline will take us to Bogotá, then our big and unique adventure reserved for few real adventurous-minded people will end.
