Tour Details

Vaupes is probably the most isolated province of Colombia, this makes it an unique place with a high conservation level, biodiversity and authenticity of the indigenous tribes living there.

During this expedition it will be possible to visit several preserved indigenous communities that still maintain most of its culture and their traditions. In order to be able to do this expedition it will be necessary to count with the permits of local indigenous authorities.

Along this 6 days experience we will be able to cross different indigenous territories and will be able to admire spectacular landscapes and unique natural spots very unexplored such us Cerro Morocco, Cananary river and the marvelous and enigmatic Apaporis River.

Recommendations

  • The destinations to be explored have special climatological conditions that require certain previous preparation in order to have a pleasurable trip. In the same order we promote conservation in every destination, each one count with environmental and ecosystem characteristics, so it is necessary:
  • Follow and abide all the instructions of the guides during each one of the trails and tours to be taken.
  • Be prepared with appropriated clothing for the 4 days of the trip with a warm and humid weather common in the amazon region.
  • It is advisable to take binoculars in order to watch fauna.
  • It is important to take cautions against mosquitos & have the vaccination against yellow fever at least 10 days before the trip (This vaccination should be renewed every 10 years).

What to take?

  • Long-sleeved shirts in order to avoid sunburns during the trails.
  • Appropriated footwear for the hikes (A pair of rubber boots , another of trekking boots are advisable and at least one pair of sneakers or several pairs for change (they might get wet during the treks).
  • Swimming suit, towels and shoes for the water, everyday there will be chance to take baths in the rivers and lakes.
  • Take cautions for electronic devices, they might be susceptible of damages due to humidity and rain in the area).
  • Sunscreen & repellent.
  • Hands-free backpack & Rigid non-disposable recipient in order to refill water (canteen)
  • Take waterproof clothing and/or poncho for the rain.
  • Cap, hat and/or protection from the sun and for the head.
  • Personal documents and medical insurance.

Itinerary

Day 1

 (05:00) – Meeting in Bogota and departure towards San José del Guaviare city by private Van or ground transportation, which will take 6 hours approximately. Once we get to S.J. del Guaviare we will have lunch and will check in at our chosen hotel. In the afternoon we will visit and appreciate the sunset at Laguna Negra “Black lagoon” and then will head back to the town where we will have the last chances to get provisions and supplies for the jungle expedition. Lastly we will have dinner and then accommodation in our hotel.

Day 2

(05:30) – Breakfast at the hotel and check-out. Then we will get to the S.J. del Guaviare Airport where we will take a DC-3 flight towards “La Victoria (Amazon province)”. Once there we will take a fluvial trip towards the community of “Villareal” (Vaupes province), where we will be received with lunch and welcoming in the indigenous territory by the local chiefs. In the afternoon we will have free time to share with the indigenous people and set our hammocks in a “Maloka” (which is a traditional indigenous house). At night we will have dinner at the Maloka and share with some of the elders of the community.

Day 3

 (07:30) – Breakfast at the camp-site and afterwards a 4 kms trek towards the community of “Buenos Aires” (Vaupes Province), where we will take an upstream river boat towards the indigenous community of Morroco. Once there we will start a trek towards Morroco hill where we will set a jungle campsite in the middle of the ascent of this enigmatic “Tepuy” (which belongs to some of the oldest rock formations on earth). The campsite is aimed to be at a waterfall of the mountain and we will sleep in hammocks in a place with a 250 meters elevation and nice view of the jungle.

Day 4

 (07:00) – Breakfast at the camp-site and total ascension of the top of Morroco Tepuy (450 meters) where we will also see some old mysterious rockart of the Tepuy. On the way down we will visit “La Ventana Al Mundo” (The world`s window), which is a magnificent view of the dense jungle of the area and the Apaporis River. Afterwards we will continue the trek towards Morroco indigenous community and if we arrive early we will have lunch there or on the way there. Then we will have a boat trip downstream towards Buenos Aires community and will have dinner & spend the night there in hammocks at a Maloka.

Day 5

 (07:00) – Breakfast at the indigenous community and farewell with the authorities of the “Buenos Aires” Community where we will start a boat ride towards the wonderfull Apaporis river and visit the majestic places on it. After this place we will have lunch and then will continue the boat ride upstream towards “La Victoria” (Amazonas Province), where we will set a campsite with hammocks in the local school where we also will have dinner.

Day 6

 (07:00) – Breakfast at the local school in La Victoria (Amazon province) where we will wait for the plane that will take us to San José del Guaviare. On the plane we will pass by vast Amazon territories till we land to Guaviare where we will have lunch and then our private transportation will take us to Bogotá by road. Approximately we will arrive to Bogotá at 20:00 hrs.
