Vaupes is probably the most isolated province of Colombia, this makes it an unique place with a high conservation level, biodiversity and authenticity of the indigenous tribes living there.
During this expedition it will be possible to visit several preserved indigenous communities that still maintain most of its culture and their traditions. In order to be able to do this expedition it will be necessary to count with the permits of local indigenous authorities.
Along this 6 days experience we will be able to cross different indigenous territories and will be able to admire spectacular landscapes and unique natural spots very unexplored such us Cerro Morocco, Cananary river and the marvelous and enigmatic Apaporis River.
Options of doing special treks and activities.
(05:00) – Meeting in Bogota and departure towards San José del Guaviare city by private Van or ground transportation, which will take 6 hours approximately. Once we get to S.J. del Guaviare we will have lunch and will check in at our chosen hotel. In the afternoon we will visit and appreciate the sunset at “Laguna Negra” (Black lagoon) and then will head back to the town where we will have the last chances to get provisions and supplies for the jungle expedition. Lastly we will have dinner and then accommodation in our hotel.
(05:30) – Breakfast at the hotel and check-out. Then we will get to the S.J. del Guaviare Airport where we will take a DC-3 flight towards “Carurú” (A village located in the northern side of the Vaupés province)”. Once there we will have a typical lunch and then take a fluvial trip towards the community of “Pucarón” (on the Vaupés river), and then will head towards the Yuruparí community where we will spend the night. Once there we will set our campsite with hammocks inside an indigenous maloca. In the afternoon we will have the chance to witness the majestic “Raudal del Yuruparí” (a long and impressive rapid in the river). Then in the night we will have dinner prepared by the locals and will have time to rest.
(06:00) – Breakfast at the maloca and afterwards a fluvial transportation in boats by the Vaupés river and then entering the Tuy creek where we will get to “Bellavista del Tuy” village and will have lunch there. Then we will start a trek towards the Cananary river (with a distance of 18 KM maximum depending on the river levels and season), doing the first part in this afternoon and finding an spot in the jungle to set a campsite and have dinner with the help of the indigenous porters (there will be a chance to hire an indigenous porter to carry your own luggage during this 18 Kms trek for 100.000 COP).
(06:00) – Breakfast at the camp-site and then start of the trek towards San José de Cananari (this will be a challenging hike depending on the weather and the jungle conditions due to the distance). Depending on the pass we will have lunch on the way or once we arrive to the village. In the afternoon we will head by boats towards Altamira indigenous village where we will set our campsite and sleep in traditional malocas with the company of the indigenous tribe with whom we will have sometime to share sometime and get to know more about their way of life and cosmovision.
(07:00) – Breakfast at the indigenous community and then transportation in boats on the Cananary river towards the indigenous community of Morroco, where we will have lunch and will prepare in order to ascent the “Cerro Morroco”. We will start the trek towards the Tepuy (kind of mountain only found in the Amazon jungle), where we will find the best spot to spend the night in a camp-site in the middle of the jungle where we will prepare the dinner and rest for the next day.
(06:00) – Breakfast at the campsite and then beginning of the climb towards the top of the “Tepuy” where we will aim to get till the rockart paintings in the top of this Tepuy. Once we have sometime to admire the majestic place, we will head to another marvelous spot: “La Ventana al mundo” (The window to the world) in which we will also have a great view of the vast Amazon jungle. After sometime there we will have lunch and then will start the trek down to the indigenous community of Morroco, where we will take the boats towards the indigenous community of Buenos Aires and will spend the night and have dinner there.
(07:00) – Breakfast at the indigenous community and farewell with the authorities of the “Buenos Aires” Community where we will start a boat ride towards the wonderfull Apaporis river and visit the majestic places on it. After this place we will have lunch and then will continue the boat ride upstream towards “La Victoria” (Amazonas Province), where we will set a campsite with hammocks in the local school where we also will have dinner.
(07:00) – Breakfast at the local school in La Victoria (Amazon province) where we will wait for the plane that will take us to San José del Guaviare. On the plane we will pass by vast Amazon territories till we land to Guaviare where we will have lunch and then our private transportation will take us to Bogotá by road. Approximately we will arrive to Bogotá at 20:00 hrs.
